Art Outside the Gallery

Art Outside the Galley

General Assembly and Active Ideas Productions are hosting what is sure to be a fascinating panel discussion on the topic of “Art Outside the Gallery”.

The event will be held in New York City on Wednesday, September 28th from 7-9pm and panelists include artist Richard Phillips, set decorator Christina Tonkin, Director of AD Projects Jill Murphy, and creator of Art.sy and The Art Genome Project, Carter Cleveland.

Talking points will cover “ways in which the internet has become a venue for showcasing artwork, pop-up curation, and the immersion of fine art into everyday life.”

Moderator Annika Connor, an extraordinarily talented contemporary romantic painter, will also be the new curator for the fine arts portion of stated. She is a Young Fellow of the Frick Collection, on the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council & Acquisitions Committee, The Roundtable, and the Fashion Committee at the National Arts Club.

We look forward to seeing where Annika takes the conversation with this excellent panel and prevailing topic. A future General Assemply and Active Ideas Production event to also consider is The Fusion of Fine Art and Fashion.

SITE OF THE DAY: "Post-it War" documents white-collar warfare

Post-It War

Post-it® War chronicles the current French phenomenon of waging warfare in office windows with elaborate works of art made of Post-it notes. According to The Guardian, the battle began when gaming company Ubisoft lobbed the opening salvo on the facade of its Montreuil office. Other offices soon followed suit and launched their own artistic attacks, which often incorporate “8-bit” icons from geek and pop culture from Spider-Man to Space Invaders.

The Post-it® War site posts user-submitted photos of the intricate artwork, and with new submissions every day, the project shows no signs of slowing. It will be interesting to see if the battle spreads to other parts of the globe.

SITE OF THE DAY: Learn Something Every Day

Learn Something Every Day

Artwork: Marcus Walters

Visitors to Learn Something Every Day can do just that—or at least they could until Aug. 31st, when the site posted its final “lesser known fact”. Every day for the past two years, the site has posted a new graphic sharing a new interesting factoid. A project of UK-based design studio, Young, the daily posts were a combination of in-house and outside artists’ work, with submissions for ideas encouraged.

Join us in wishing them a fond farewell and be sure to pick up a copy of the Learn Something Every Day 365-day print edition from Amazon.
