STATED at the Oscars

Join stated as we live-blog the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
Watch this space throughout the awards!

8:00PM - Are you watching the red carpet coverage? Try as we do to dismiss the focus on what everyone’s wearing, it’s hard to ignore the style on display. Tim Gunn spoke with co-host Anne Hathaway and Valentino, whose “archival” gown she was wearing from 1981.

8:02PM - Nominee Natalie Portman is definitely showing…  And looks beautiful.

8:08PM - Colin Firth seems to be the favorite for Best Actor. What do you think?

8:14PM - Gwyneth Paltrow says she’d like to sing a duet with Jay-Z…

8:27PM - Almost time…

8:30PM - Intro… Alec Baldwin can do no wrong. Remember when we didn’t think so?

8:37PM - Intro…suddenly want to watch Back to the Future…

8:39PM - Love that they called out the obvious ploy to reach a younger crowd.

8:41PM - Anne and James look great…but not looking so promising on the funny…

8:41PM - Not to mention James seems to think today is 4/20…

8:45PM - Alice in Wonderland wins Art Direction. Deservedly so. Unfortunately the best part of the film.

8:47PM - Inception wins Cinematography. Gorgeous picture.

8:48PM - Speaking of.. Was Christopher Nolan seriously not nominated for Best Director?

8:52PM - Seriously need to catch up and see The King’s Speech

8:55PM - …and True Grit…and The Fighter

8:56PM - Best Supporting Actress goes to Melissa Leo.  Ok, seriously need to see The Fighter

9:00PM - Awkward moment exiting with Kirk Douglas…

9:01PM - Timberlake made a funny!  He’s Banksy.

9:02PM - Isn’t “The Gruffalo” nominated for Best Supporting Actor?

9:06PM - Seems it would’ve been a bit strange for Toy Story 3 NOT to win seeing as it’s a Best Picture Nom.

9:08PM - Probably a bit late…but SPOILER ALERT if you’re not watching…

9:14PM - Not surprised Aaron Sorkin would win Adapted Screenplay. Made it the film it is.

9:17PM - The King’s Speech takes Best Original Screenplay.

9:25PM - Anne can sing for sure, but this is awkward…

9:27PM - Maybe this will be the year we stick to our plans to see more foreign films…?

9:31PM - Can’t wait to see Jeremy Renner’s lighthearted rom-com, “The Heart Locker.”

9:33PM - Christian Bale is disappointingly un-crazy in acceptance. At least his beard and hair don’t quite match.

9:44PM - Nice, but requisite juxtaposition between Williams classics and winning Trent Reznor score for The Social Network.

9:48PM - Inception wins Sound Mixing. Definitely need to watch again.

9:50PM - Seems strange two different movies would win Sound Mixing and Editing, no? (Inception won both.)

9:56PM - I think it’s safe to say Franco is baked.

9:56PM - Good for The Wolfman. It was so robbed in all the other categories…

10:06PM - Who is that with Mandi Moore…?

10:09PM - Oh, that was “Chuck” singing with MM?!

10:13PM - Amy Adams really seems nervous…or just can’t see the teleprompter.

10:16PM - “Thanks to my mother, who did craft services for the film.” Love it.

10:18PM - Wow, Auto Tune the News makes the Oscars. Clever, but seriously, have they just given up on anyone over 50 this year?

10:27PM - Suddenly wishing they’d had Billy Crystal host…

10:35PM - The Social Network wins 3rd award of evening for Editing.

10:41PM - Did they seriously just go there with the “dirty titles?”

11:05PM - Tom Hooper wins Best Director for The King’s Speech.

11:16PM - Natalie Portman wins much-deserved Best Actress award for Black Swan. No big surprise there.

11:25PM - Colin Firth takes Best Actor for The King’s Speech.

11:35PM - Nice segment with VO from The King’s Speech to introduce it as Best Picture winner. Safe choice.

11:39PM - Cute kids…could do without the swaying. Also a bit on the random side…but cute.

11:41PM - And there we have it. Thanks for joining us and congrats to all the winners and nominees!
