Behind the Scenes of Jordan Matter's "Dancers Among Us" Photography Series

NY dancers Eric Bourne, Lloyd Knight, and Dayla Perkins in the finished New Rochelle shot from Jordan Matter’s “Dancers Among Us” series of photographs

New York based photographer Jordan Matter’s captures dancers in everyday, ordinary situations in extraordinary ways in his “Dancers Among Us” series. The project began when he had the idea to shoot Paul Taylor Dance Company member Jeffrey Smith, which quickly expanded to the full company and eventually dancers across the country. He’s been documenting his shoots on his blog and in videos, which catch the often fascinating clash between dancer and setting, from riding the subway to shoveling snow.

For a recent shoot in New Rochelle, Matter created the illusion of a dancer floating above the horizon through no effects or manipulation. Check out the behind the scenes video below to see how it was done, and find more addictive videos on his video channel.
